Little Bird

(This has loaded the wrong way round for some reason, even though the file is the correct way around)

Esme's tealight holder for a school project. Tis beautiful, hope we get it back again!

This is our new woodburner with 10 stockings above it! Not sure who all the stockings are for, hope Esme is not hinting at siblings! I love the grey deatail of the concrete hearth

Love the multi-abdomened (is that even a word? hmmmm *scratches head quizically) snowmen! And the buttons!

5 Years. 3 weeks (and the previous 6ish weeks)

A pattern (not figurative, just pattern, this is the first time I've seen Esme do this)

A snail (clearly a happy snail!), Esme was keen to point out the detail on the slime trail!

A rocket with a really long ribbon tail. The ribbon is no longer as long as this as she has recycled most of it into new stuffs.

This is a 'laminated' (sellotaped!) bag to hold beads (which I suspect she has pinched from after school club!)

A handbag for me!

'The people on the bus' Esme's response to an after school club theme of 'how we travel'

A card for Esme's beloved Kerri who was leaving after being in her life for nearly it's entirety. Esme had the idea to make a badge to go on the front from a jam-tart tin, she sellotaped a safety pin on the back that found in my jewellery box (not sure why it was in there?!)

This is Moo. Esme's mouse that has accompanied her everywhere since...well, forever. I found this drawing in a pile of many that came home from school with her today.

Saturday 14 May 2011

Turning 5 years old tomorrow

Esme has been drawing seemingly constantly this week, getting totally absorbed into each drawing. I have noticed that she seems to be using her drawings more expressively, to communicate her wishes and ideas (triple drawing with imaginary sisters). These drawings are a selection of free drawings which I think sum up her week.

Mummy and Grandad 'Mummy I have drawn you with your glasses on because they make your eyes better'

'I have drawn me in the middle and my two sisters (imaginary as Esme is an only child) Emma and Emmalee at the sides. I have the prettiest dress on because I am the princess'

'A flag' Esme figured this out herself and painstakingly coloured it all in with biro

'Me and you Mummy with Ben and Lilly... oh no I have run out of room to draw Callum and Daddy, I will draw them on another piece of paper'
(Note to self: Evidence that at this age Esme is not planning her drawings, they are simply evolving)

Perspective

Today. Out of the blue, Esme said 'when you draw a picture of things near to you they are big. When you draw things far away, they are little'. (She was actually in the bath at the time, but had had a day of feverish, frenetic drawing. It was difficult to get her to stop.)

Monday 25 April 2011

4 Years 11 months 1 week

Esme sat for an hour and a half working on this all by herself. 'There are lots of numbers because lots of people live here'.
